Organic bread

No Comments 14 May 2010

What are the benefits of organic bread? The quality of bread has dropped over the years. Bread producer put more emphasis on the convenience of their trade than on consumer’s health. The fact that regular bread is now made with additives to reduce the baking time, has caused a drop in texture and nutrients. It takes more to bake organic bread, but the health benefits and the taste are really great.

Organic bread may or may not contain yeast, depending on whether the maker wants to use a growing agent or not. In the absence of yeast, lactobacillus remains active in organic bread, which has immense benefits for the health condition. Depending on the recipe, oat bran may also be added to organic bread. Such products are known to reduce cholesterol, and they can be easily digested by people who suffer from some digestive disease or problem.

It may sound ironic but organic bread is not soft but firm even when very fresh. This debunks one very extended impression that fresh bread has to be soft too. Keep in mind that soft bread is full of additives and preservatives. Real, natural bread cannot be like that. Plus, the out-of-the-oven texture cannot last for days. These should be your criteria for judging the quality of the breads you buy.

As for ingredients, organic bread can be made from multi-grain, white wheat or whole wheat. Most bakers provide a variety of presentation forms from regular loaves and rolls to baguettes and even toast. For unique flavor, some special ingredients may be added to organic bread, and these products are specialties. Olives, walnuts, basil, cheese, tomatoes, sun flower seeds and so many others can be added to bread.

Organic bread is usually sold in health stores. However, some people prefer to get all the organic ingredients and take them at home to make their own bread. The Internet offers a wide range of recipes to choose from, not to mention that their are automatic bread-makers that facilitate the baking process a lot. It’s hard not to like organic bread once you’ve tasted a well-made variety.

Buy it from the local bakery, order it on the Internet or make it at home; but do use organic products! The important thing is to include organic bread in your diet together with other healthy foods. You’ll enjoy a better overall body condition and a lot more vitality. Lots of people have learned this on their own. You can be one of them!

How to spot a good organic food store?

No Comments 12 May 2010

Not every neighborhood has an organic food store! You are lucky if you get some organic products at the local supermarket or market. The number of consumers for organic food would be higher if there was as an organic food store where to shop regularly. The Internet offers an alternative to the traditional organic food store, but it is more expensive because of the delivery costs. If there are organic farms in your area, chances are that the producers will sell their crops in market stands.

The items you buy at the market or in an organic food store are always fresh, and you can choose those you like. Although home deliveries are quite convenient too, many people fear that the products lose some of their quality during transportation. In the absence of a well-supplied organic food store, some would prefer the online alternative. The ‘Internet order phenomenon’ has developed so much that people even join shopping clubs to minimize the costs of transportation.

You’d be surprised to discover more than one organic food store in certain areas. The price, the product diversity and the distance from home will influence the choice of the location where you shop regularly. Discounts, coupons and special offers could also act as incentives for the undecided buyers. Organic food store managers now heavily rely on marketing strategies to convince people to buy.

The shopper is also influenced by the richness of the offer. When the organic food store offers an impressive diversity of products, the buyer will prefer traveling a larger distance from home, just to get all the supplies in one shot. The need to save time on shopping is also the reason why many consumers now order food from the Internet. The same things are available online and in the local store, but with the Internet you get everything delivered to your door.

In a nutshell: if you’ve made up your mind to follow a healthier diet, you need to buy supplies from an organic food store. You can identify the closest provider to your home by using some online tools for locating the most advantageous retailer. This is also the criterion based on which you should choose online organic food dealers too.

How Walking Can Relieve Your Stress

No Comments 10 May 2010

Why walking is important

Walking is said to be a great relief for stress. You are able to take time away from the daily grind.  As you head outside, you are far away from the everyday scenes of home or work.  By stepping away from these things – phone calls, email, computer work, etc., you can step away from the work and instead take in the sights and sounds of outside. You are also away from people that ask you to do things – supervisors, co-workers, or family members.

Removing yourself from the daily routine is one benefit of walking.  As long as you’re outdoors, you cannot see the workplace equipment or machinery, nor hear the voices of family members or those you work with.  You are also away from chores and responsibilities, even if for a short while.  Hence, you are less likely to worry or become upset by some unexpected event.  You can relax and take in the scenery.

Even more ways walking relieves stress as listed are as follows:
Breathing fresh, clean air
Allows you to unwind those tense muscles
Reconnect with yourself while getting your body in motion.
Puts mental and physical distance between you and the stress-causing stimuli in your every day environment.
Gives you the opportunity to laugh and talk freely with your walking partner.  You also have an opportunity to vent to them, expressing what or who is bothering you or causing problems.
Helps you burn off calories from foods ingested due to stress.

Endorphins released by walking

In addition to relieving stress, walking enables one’s body to release endorphins, or so called “happy drugs.”  Physicians commonly recommend walking as not only an exercise, but as a natural treatment to cope with depression.  Wildly swining moods are often signs of stress or depression.  Endorphins can do for you naturally what prescription drugs and herbs can do artificially.

A 1999 study in the Annals of Behavioral Medicine showed that college students who walked or did moderate exercise were less stressed than couch potatoes or those who exercised vigorously.

Walking with a partner

Walking with a partner gives you an opportunity to share your thoughts with them.  Walking partners can talk privately about issues in their lives.  A couple could also get some much-needed alone time, unlikely to be interrupted.  The more deeply each converses, the more they enjoy each other’s company.  When you’re happier, more stress is relieved.  So put on your favorite walking shoes, and enjoy a pleasant walk.
